Architecture should bring people together, open up the opportunity for a smile, a funny comment, an odd observation because that is the moment that starts deleting the stranger.
Spaces should spark fascination, bringing surprise, and create wonder. The feeling of entering a space there can give that little spark of excitement because the feeling of your senses getting tickled. These conditions should be more of our everyday life. Our spaces need to affect us because they are what shapes us. The act of experiences together can become more.
The original intention of this thesis was to create a space of wonder, where people could create a connection between generations, communities, and create an area where the building was designed to forcing people into interactions with each other
The project took a 180 and changed focus from forcing people together to forcing people away from one another.
The work came to a full stop with the arrival of the Corona. This thesis started on the basics of emotional connection, how we use our senses, and how they can become part of what brings us together: How we experience and understand. This changed with the new restriction to interaction.
For this thesis, it meant that everything changed; The planned work suddenly did not relate to the reality of how people move, relate, or experience.
This thesis is still about bringing smiles to people’s faces, just not between people. This, by bringing the act of fun into what else would be a straight and ordinary experience and using wonder and playfulness to creating a moment that would intrigue curiosity.
